This week it is all about C and together we have used cars, candles and explored colours.
Playdough is so good to improve fine motor skills and so we play with play dough often. I try to enhance the playdough experience by adding different items to play with. For c week I added candles and cupcake cases and together we made cakes and added candles. We counted the candles and sang happy birthday (repeatedly). I also found some number candles and so we talked about numbers and did some number recognition. Later while she was playing with her cakes and candles I hear her talking to herself saying “My birthday is in January…Grandma’s birthday is in January…Auntie Vicki’s is in January”
At the Car Wash
What child doesn’t love water play? I don’t give the toddler enough water experiences but this week we had not one but two water based activities. Firstly we improved gross motor skills with a car wash. Dressed in a waterproof suit with access to bubbly water, watering cans and sponges and her Crazy Coupe car and she was off. Scrubbing and scrubbing, popping bubbles and rinsing the car. She really loved this activity.
Next we explored different coloured water.
I just added a food colouring to water and the toddler and the baby splashed and flicked the water. The baby was a bit unsure at first but with his older cousin on hand to show him the way he was soon splashing in the water too. Obviously, it goes without saying that extra supervision is required for water play.
The baby loved this activity, it was super simple and kept the baby engaged for long enough for me to make a cuppa! (result!!). I simply collected together a range of objects of the same colour and let the baby explore. The toddler joined in too and I extended her language by introducing new words for the colours we were exploring. For example, for red we used new words like crimson and scarlett and when looking at green we talked about different shades of green.
Painting with Cars
We love to paint and always try to explore different ways of painting. Cars and paint is great fun. We raided the car box and used different cars to make car tracks. We talked about the wheels making different marks depending on what the tyre looked like. This was great for exploring colour mixing too.
