We could have n week without mentioning nursery rhymes. We love nursery rhymes in our house - baby, toddler and preschooler all love singing nursery rhymes which improves memory and introduces rhyme, rhythms and onomatopoeia. The children will sing rhymes regardless of where we are or what we are doing but I enjoy including props so they can choose which rhymes we sing and also ensures we sing a variety of rhymes these can be in the form of picture cards, puppets or objects from around the house - a toy tea pot for Polly Put the Kettle on.
Noodles. I demonstrated how to use each one and the preschooler had a go. She found she preferred grabbing handful of noodles best of all
Welove giving the baby exposure to messy activities. Neon food colouring mixed with Greek yoghurt formed our edible finger paint. The baby explored it first with feet and then with hands. He really got stuck in. Now that he can sit up - more or less unaided - he can engage with the messy play activities a bit easier. I am sure his love of them will continue as he gets older....I have visions of him crawling through the paint soon enough!!!!
N Neon Markers and Post it notes
I love post it notes. They are vibrant in colour which is appealing and small enough not to overwhelm when mark making. This week we cracked open some neon pens. The tiny pens go some way to forcing the children to hold the pens using correct pen grip which is good practise. The toddler and preschooler went potty filling the little squares with marks.
